In three days, from May 16 to May 18, 2024, a delegation of Vietnamese businesses, organized by the Vietnam Association for Foreign Invested Enterprises (VAFIE) in collaboration with the Northern Territory – Vietnam Business Council (NTVBC) and with the support of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Western Australia and Northern Territory, visited and worked with Northern Territory Government agencies, the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce, the Larrakia Nation Indigenous Corporation. They met and discussed establishing partnerships with many businesses operating in the supply chains of construction, red meat, real estate – tourism, import-export trade between Vietnam and Northern Territory, logistics, maritime transport, and direct flights between Darwin and Vietnam.
The delegation had a meeting with Paspalis, a company headquartered in the Darwin Innovation Hub. This enterprise is commissioned by the Northern Territory Government to manage an investment fund that supports innovative technology projects both domestically and internationally, bringing added benefits to the Northern Territory.
At the meeting with the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce (CCNT), the delegation led by Mr Nguyen Ngoc My – Vice Chairman of VAFIE, met and discussed with various partners, including Mr. Willem Westra Van Holthe – Director of AusNorth Trading, Mr. Tony Halikos – CEO of Steeline GRP, Ms. Louise Bilato – Board Member of Northern Territory Buffalo Industry Council, Mr. Louis Leroux – CFO of Australian Cattle Enterprises, Mr. Danny Diep Nguyen – CEO of Vermelha, Mr. Hoi Le – Director of CAIT, and Mr. Rohan Badenhop – Industry Council Director of the CCNT.
The delegation was received at the headquarters of the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) by Mr. Jerome Cubillo – Chairman of Larrakia Nation and CEO of the Northern Territory Indigenous Business Network (NTIBN), Mr. Micheal Rotumah – CEO of Larrakia Nation, and Mr. Victor Williams – Deputy CEO of Larrakia Nation.
During the meeting with the Department of Industry, Tourism, and Trade of Northern Territory, Ms. Nguyễn Thanh Hà, the Consul General of Vietnam, proposed that the Northern Territory Government implement a mechanism to prioritize visa issuance for Vietnamese business delegations visiting Northern Territory to explore investment cooperation opportunities.
Before being guided on a tour of the Darwin Harbour Port, the delegation held a meeting with the Darwin Port Authority to understand the standards and conditions of Darwin Port for receiving ships from Vietnam transporting refrigerated and dry container goods, facilitating direct two-way transportation between Darwin and Ho Chi Minh City / Hai Phong Ports.
